About Me

person typing Blog on a piece of paperWelcome to my very first blog!  I’m Sonia and  I created this blog primarily as a resource for myself and for other single retirees who are living on a budget and who love to travel.  While the information presented may be helpful to retirees in general, my target audience is folks like me who left work before 59.5 yrs old.  Because we can’t draw on retirement accounts yet, we’re living primarily on savings and/or a pension.  Consequently,  we face hurdles that couples and younger folks do not.

I hope you find this blog useful.  Feel free to contact me with any questions or comments!    Cheers!  Sonia

Hand putting dollars into a bucket labeled retirement Retired with Less than $1 Million?
In another post, I discussed the commonly accepted “you need $1,000,000 to retire” rule.  Can you retire with less?  Possibly … People retire all the time with a lot less money.  They might have been forced to leave work early (due to layoffs, illness, etc.)  or perhaps they voluntarily quit a soul-sucking career.  Read about why I voluntarily left a secure job before I had $1 million in savings. Further, find out what steps I took before deciding that it was possible to retire early.

So many places to see and so little money!  While my budget kept me stateside for most of 2018, I am busy exploring inexpensive foreign adventures for 2019.  Here is where I’m currently traveling,  where I’m planning to visit, what I’m budgeting to spend and what I actually spent! I will confess my monetary mistakes and explore what I would change if I could do it over again.

Budget Wardrobes
A “capsule wardrobe” seems like another “trendy” rich person thing. However, having a minimalist wardrobe may help your budget, get rid of clutter, and reduce the stress of what to wear. I tried capsule clothing from several companies. Learn more about capsule wardrobes and my experiences on trying to create one on a budget.
